Grows: from mid of July to mid of October. It has two layers: at mid of July and form mid of August to mid of September, you can find them in young spruce forest, in light, sometimes wet places, in grass and in the moss (firry form), in young pine forest, on the sandy soil and in dry places (piny form). Mycorrhizal with conifers and fir; growing gregariously or scattered, often.
Description:
Cap up to 15 cm, almost flat or with a central depression and vase-shaped, sometimes inrolled when young, smooth, wet and sticky. The color of cap is carrot orange or orange, bluish-green with more dark concentric zones or with green spots.
The flesh is orange and then becoming greenish. Milk is orange to yellow. Taste is sweet, slightly acrid, with scent of pitch.
Gills running down the stem, narrow, crowed and close. The color is orange or yellowish, becoming greenish, when press.
Stem up to 9 cm long and to 2 cm thick, equal, hollow, brittle and cylindrical, same color as a cap.
Healing power: Lactarius deliciosus has an antibiotic – lactorioviolin, which capable to cope with tubercle (Koch's bacillus). It possesses the medical action at metabolic disease, including the piebald skin (vitiligo). Lactarius deliciosus contains antirheumatic substance similar with cartizon.
Using: Lactarius deliciosus is an edible mushroom (1st category). It can be used fresh, in brine, fried and so on.
The firry form of Lactarius deliciosus is getting greenish, when prepare.
